Unfortunately because single moms are often very busy, they become easy targets to hassle. People either don't realize or don't care how diffiecult it is to be a single mom.

My best friend is a single mom. She's 24 and has an 8 year old daughter. Her family disowned her because they thought she was going to be a leach on them because she was 16 with a baby. She gets no help from her family, finantially or otherwise. Her mom died 3 years ago, she doesn't have a dad. She works hard to pay rent and the baby sitter. It's really hard for her but she wouldn't change it. She loves knowing that no matter how bad things get, she will always have her daughter to love and love her.

What do you mean hassle them? Because they are not married? Because people assume that if you are not married you are not keeping with the family structure of an "ideal" family that provides emotional and financial support for children. Marriage also seems to be the one of the only ways that sexual activity is legitimized - at least in theory. While it is possible to raise children in this environment, most single parents will struggle more fincially.

Why do you get hassled?
My mom has always been a single mom, I don't know if she was hassled, but I don't think its ok! They are doing the best they can!
(my mothers wasnt the very best!)
I'm sorry you get hassled but hey, you would do anything for your kids right, I'm sure you are working hard for your kids!
I'm sorry and good luck!

Like who would hassle a single mom. I think single moms are cool. You have to be really strong to be able to take care of a kid by yourself.

i guess it's because single moms fall out of love with the man for one reason or another, that is why they might tell him that they can manage without him. Personally I think that if a mom can cope by herself good for her, but I think the child and the father should still have a relationship even if they don't live together.
