They didn't jump with the intent of committing suicide.
They jumped to escape a horrible situation which certainly would have killed them.
Yes, jumping from the upper floors of a 120-story building would probably result in death. But they could have jumped in the hopes of, somehow, surviving the fall.
People have been known to fall from great heights and to live to tell about it.
I read of a case during World War II where a British airman bailed out of his burning bomber at around 8,000 feet without his parachute in order to escape the flames, after it was hit with some flak.
He passed out after jumping -- again, with no parachute -- and when he woke up, he was in a German POW hospital.
He landed in some thick shrubbery somewhere, which broke his fall.
And, of course, we've all heard of babies and young children accidentally falling out of windows many floors up, and surviving the fall somehow.
So, it's entirely possible that the people who jumped from the WTC weighed their options, and genuinely thought that jumping yielded a better chance of survival than staying there.

No. Christianity is about relationship with God. There's a difference in suicide and escaping a fire. It all depends on the situation and the heart of the person.

Shame on you, do you know how many you hurt by asking such a thing! Have you lost anyone you loved? Do you have an inkling to the insight of Gods Love? Even as you insult all those who lost there life that day, and there loved ones, God still loves you. He may not be proud of you but he loves you and has not given up on you. Seek!
God Bless.......he lives!

I don't know if suicide is explicitly mentioned as a sin in the Bible...I had a teacher once who told me it wasn't (he worked as a missionary in south Asia for 10 years before he took up education as a profession).

The op made a disgusting judgement. Firstly its not how we die that saves us or not, its whether we believe in and follow Jesus. Secondly how could you even think of judging those who were caught in that appalling situation, shame on you.Thirdly no where in the Bible is suicide condemned anyway and no where does God say that His children who commit suicide wont be saved.

No, the World Trade Center jumpers were not condemned to hell. However, the terrorists who killed them are roasting right now and will for eternity!

No, they were going to die anyway so how is that suicide?
God takes no pleasure in our death neither does he want people to be tortured.
Read the bible!

Suicide is no more of a sin than anything else.
Salvation is by Gods grace and will.
This I believe;

Fire is the absolute worst way to die and people will do ANYTHING to get away. Don't pass judgement and maybe you can stay out of hell.
