Any type of physical activity is key. If you can't get her running, then start out by walking. Walk around the mall a few times a day to start with and just increase it from there. The other key factor is food. if she just stops eating she will gain more weight because the body will think its going hungry. Tell her it is very important to eat healthy foods and earlier in the day. Always eat breakfast because it gets your metabolism up for the entire day, and don't eat anything after 8pm (some say 6) when metabolism is slowest. I don't know how tall she is or how much overweight she is, but she can do it. 60 pounds in 3 months will be hard, but its worth it in the long run even if it takes 6 months

At 12 years old it is mostly food choices. She should talk with her parents and DR if she is concerned about her health. My suggestion to start is not eat as many carbs (bread, potatoes, etc) and drink a glass of water before every meal and snack and make sure you drink 8 glasses of water a day as well. Excercise as well is a key to losing weight, if she is not sure where to begin, she should talk with her DR and he/she can point her in the right direction. It is also really nice that she has a supportive friend like you.

It is nearly impossible to lose that much weight in 3 months. She would have to practically stop eatting! I am 19 and I weight 255 pounds a good 100 pounds overweight right now and I was like that as a child too .... I've always been overweight! So finally I found friends who are around my size and who are comfortable in their own skin and in this grew to love myself for who I am and not for what I look like!

EDIT: cherry that is just plain RUDE! She can have a life but if she lets her weight get to her ..... then she is only dooming herself.

Only your friend can decide for herself, if she wants to lose weight. When I was fat, I felt just like your friend, So I did something about it very quickly:

I lost 70 pounds in 3 months, drinking a gallon of water a day, exercising 2 hours daily- Nonstop (aerobic exercise- using the stepper, running up & downstairs, jogging), and eating ramen noodles & salads, and taking a multi-vitamin pill................I've kept the weight off for 6 years now...........Good Luck!

I was always over weight, I got fed up with it after 40 years and did my own diet without drugs and Doctors. I started to cut down on what I ate. One Scoop instead of TWO. Cut out the sweets, grabbed the veggies, green veggies are free food, you can eat all you want. I ate three meals a day, morning, lunch and dinner. Small portions, no snacking in between. Never eat after 7pm, no one moves from the TV after 7 so all goes to fat. I lost 120 lbs in approx 3 months. Stick to one scoop instead of two, this works

She's not going to lose 60 pounds in 3 months (I'd say if she SAFELY lost it, it would take a year). It's nice that she has such a supportive friend. Maybe when you eat lunch at school, you can steer her towards healthier choices, like salads and non-fried stuff. Good luck!

To lose 60 pounds in 3 months is very extreme. If she is concerned about her weight she needs to see her dr. So, that her dr can put her on a low or high calorie diet, depending on what her health needs are.

You can help your freind by helping her restore her selfesteem.
Your friend can go on a diet. but she might need a little help.
Tell your freind to cut back on her bread, chips, sodas, for about two weeks. And start walking everyday. You can walk with her for support. If she lose an wieght durning those two weeks; She doesn't need a diet. She just need to cut back.

Help guide her with the food that she eats and ask her to come on a walk with you every day. Do not be to hard on her or she will not want to do it.
