where is a good place to find a decent, cheap, first car?

Avoid Japanese cars. they are very expensive to fix.

Pay cash for cars. Never borrow money to buy a car. That being said, Put up an ad on the bulletin board at a local retirement center. Many old people have to quit driving when they move into a retirement center. They take great care of their cars and would LOVE to help someone out with a great deal to get started in life! Many people have cars in storage in these situations and with a little prodding will sell them. Good Luck!

eBay Motors if you are buying used. Stick with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or Mazda.

If buying new, consider the new Honda Fit (about $15,000 loaded).
