you really can't put "dress in costume- but make it pretty" on a wedding invitation. you CAN use "Masquerade Ball" as your wedding theme. It sounds like this is what you want. Think: Phantom of the Opera style. But you have to consider that quests might not want to rent a gorgeous costume for your reception. It is costly- especially for an extravagant dress like you describe above. It would be beautiful though. And you may be able to work out a special discount at a local costume shop for this. Call around. You can place their card in the invitation envelope to guide your guests in the right direction.
For "easter" you can use the color scheme as your base. then incorporate "easter" ideas throughout. ie- as place cards have your local baker make a mini-cake or cookie shaped like an egg w/ your guest's name piped right on in frosting.
for centerpieces have iron bird cages w/ candles inside. as favors: egg shaped candles. your florist can also help you w/ original bouquets. incorporate feathers into the bouquet for a unique look.
use bird nests (not real ones) to hold the favors. line w/ more feathers. serve sorbet in those little ceramic egg stands as your palate cleanser course.
the trick is not to go crazy. pick a few spring or easter ideas and repeat them. (eggs& feathers were what I used above). too much going on will confuse guests.
hope this helps!

You could do a wedding from a certain era - something like 20s or 40s or 50s would be great fun. I wouldn't go much further back as renting or making costumes from earlier periods are expensive and cumbersome to wear. Not everyone has a ren faire attire, so this may exclude some people from attending, or will mean that many will just wear normal clothes, leaving those who do dress up possibly in an awkward situation. 20th century 'era' clothes are relatively easy to find or sew, so a Gatsby party may be the easiest. Good luck whatever you decide! : )

It would be really nice to have a theme wedding, but consider whether you will want to look back at wedding photos in a few years seeing your friends and family in odd costumes. You can always have a huge Halloween bash, and everyone will dress up. If you did a medieval theme, dresses would be easy to find for the bridal party, and the guys could wear kilts or something. Other than that, it might look silly to you in a few years.
I had some friends who wanted people to dress up like Star Wars characters... they were my husband's friends, really, and fortunately, they never got married, so we never had to watch that nightmare come alive.

Theme weddings can be difficult if you're going to have lots of mundanes there who don't have their special festival clothes. Personally, I'm Pagan, and most of my friends are Pagan, so I would tend towards wanting a Pagan themed wedding because then all my friends would already have what they would want to wear. Look at the bulk of your friends and consider what sort of dress clothes they have which would look best at the reception

I love the idea on picking an era theme like the 20s. I think that could be really elegant. Try doing a masqerade ball if you can.

Have a ball (like a fancy one from back in the day). This way, people will have to dress up and you can theme it based on how they used to decorate. Classy and fun! =)

If you want to do a halloween theme you could still do that. You could be the princess, and he could wear like the old suit with the top hat and everything.

this could be a prevalent. i might say that is okay. in case you and your fiancee the two experience captivated with those issues then why no longer contain them on your wedding ceremony. basically a sprint suggestion i might want to furnish you is to objective and not bypass too loopy with the matters otherwise it will basically look messy. i might say %. a pair, we could say, 3 to 5 & basically artwork your way around your reception utilising those. Or if no longer i might say settle for a extra typical topic, enable's say outdoors activies. then you definately could have each table be some diverse outdoors interest. we could say tenting, looking, fishing and so on and so on. I as quickly as had a groom who enjoyed surfing & so we named each table after his favourite surf spots. as quickly as you come to a minimum of one typical topic it makes reworking your reception a remarkable deal extra straightforward. i'm hoping this allows & congrats :)
