She knows being independent is a good thing, she just doesn't want to let go yet. It'll get better in time. Moms just want to hold on to their children as long as possible. I thnk she knows that you need to be independent but she just wants to hold on a little longer. Just give it time, try talking to her. Let her know that she will always be a part of your life. She will start to let go. GGOD LUCK!!!!!!

Well, it's true that some parents don't get it. I have a MIL that wants her youngest (and her babies) to live with her forever. She keeps her 'down' in an effort to not lose them. Even though the dd is only moving across town, MIL has always HAD kids in her home. She likes feeling needed and wanted, and especially needed by the babies.
If this is your situation, back off old mom. Let her know that things are not changing that much. You may even want to gently remind her that it's her job to raise you up to stand alone, on your own. She should be proud that you can be a grownup. Remind her that you will still need her, she will still be grandma etc.

She thinks you are too young at 18. Action speaks louder than words. Show her how matured and responsible you are and then she will come to realise that you are all grown up and independent.

By showing her with your actions that you are responsible and that she can trust you to make good decisions for you and your child. At 18 you hve alot to learn, so listen to your mom and be patient.
