We (most of us) have four fingers and a thumb. Pinkie is just the word used to describe one of the fingers. Just the same as pointer finger or middle finger. Pinkie FINGER. Also the pinkie has 3 joints like the rest of the fingers. The thumb only has 2.

You have 4 fingers. The thumb is actually an extension of the palm. While in the fetus, the fingers develop from the outer to the inner. In easy terms, the pinky first.

Four fingers and a thumb on each hand; anatomically a pinkie is considered to be a finger. Now, stop the arguing and hurry back to your English grammar class - it's my friend and I, not me and my friend.

Five fingers. Y'all are half wrong. :-)
Five fingers, which can either be broken down into four fingers/one thumb or three fingers/pinkie/thumb. Just call them five appendages. (Insert a new word into the argument.)
