because they correlate "freedom" with "myself" and it's just an excuse to be vulgar. it's a good question you asked; i agree with you.

well how else are we going to identify the realy stupid people among us till they open there mouthes and say something truly stupid.
Sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you. Instead of being offended by what others say if you are smart enough you should reason with them and find out the cause of this radical idea of there's .
maybe they have trouble expressing them-selves so they are understood . i hate gays may not be seen by all to mean the same thing. If you ask this person why he may say he was molested by a preist and does not like gays.
Signs are to small to explain the meaning of what motivates an individual to speak out and to sensor this speach in any way is wrong by seeing and hearing others we have a chance to engage them in conversation and determine for ourselfs if infact they may not be right or wrong depends on your veiws does'nt it.

They come to this conclusion due to not including another aspect of the constitution. These freedoms are only allowed if they do not violate another person's rights. This is where the slander and libel laws stem from.

I think that allowing stupid people to say whatever they want is an efficient way of keeping them readily identifiable for the rest of us. It's much cheaper than printing up millions of t-shirts saying, "Don't listen to me; I'm an idiot." It's more humane than facial tattoos saying, "My opinions are worthless because I don't think critically." Stickers warning "TV tells me what to think" might be nice, but the people who most need them are the ones least able to put them on without help. Free speech helps us know who the fools among us are.

I agree...it is a damn shame when people twist the meaning of "freedom of speech" in order to use it as an excuse to spread hatred and violence. It is inexcusable.
I would say that such people are suffering from low self esteem. By convincing themselves that they are somehow "better" than someone who is not like them in some way, they seek to make themselves feel "superior". It never works.
Like my dear old Granny says, "scratch a bully, and you'll find a coward hiding underneath"!!

i love your point. =) this is actually the point of media today. =) some cross the lines and kill people with insanity. =) anyway, like what the other person said, "freedom" is correlated with the self, thus if people think that everything they say, right or wrong, is always right. it's rather inhuman and very insensitive. plus, people today interpret a lot of things literally.

they were maybe waiting for somebody to say that they have freedom of speech to express everything they were repressing inside since i-don´t-know-when...in that matter they are forgeting etiquette and losing control over themselves.

That's what free speech means. It is easy to stand up for free speech when yu agree with everything that's being said. The true test is whether or not you stand up for it when you don't agree with what's said.

Freedom of speech is only of value when accompanied by the wisdom to know when - and when not - to speak.

Because they think that if they can say something, they should -- that the very fact that they can form words means they have something worth saying -- and because they have little regard for how those words will effect other people.
