What is the best way to learn Spanish without taking classes?

If you have tried different ways of learning Spanish tell me what worked and didn't for you.

Learn spanish songs along with their translations, I mean it is always easier to remember a song than going through those boring exercises you have to do when learning a new song. Don't forget repetition is very important, which is why I suggest singing. Have fun.

The teach yourself books are good. Also, watch movies, listen to music, find Spanish speaking friends (perhaps you can trade conversation time with someone learning English) and read stories. Of course these are things that you can do until you get to go to a Spanish speaking place, or can get into classes.

Place yourself in constant contact with people who speak Spanish. Try talking with a native speaker or teaching a Spanish speaker English and then they could teach you Spanish.

I volunteered to tutor a spanish speaker who was learning english. this pushed me to pick up spanish and she also taught me spanish as i taught her english. it worked out very well.
