I've handled several different breeds over the years and they almost all have their endearing traits. Because I live on a ranch tho', I find the herding breeds most useful. I currently am owned by a Border Collie who has the most personality out of all the dogs I've owned or trained.

Border Collie! love him, fun, good with kids, plays exellent with balls, frizbies, and other dogs and cats, and loves his family! they are hearding animals so they keep the kids insight and safe at all times! they love dock diving and swimming. and best of all they are very fast learners and love to be held and touched...Will never try another bread ever again! we have had Billy for 2 years now, got him from a shelter when he was 3 months old and he has impressed me and my family, the neighbors, and customers ( he comes to work with me and stays behind the line in the door way always) He is perfect! And I here all border collies are this way! Medium size dogs also.........
Miniture Schnauzer........NEVER AGAIN...paid 300 dollars for a dog that is a runner, (they are natural socializers, my vet said) barkers, nippers, and all around turds! got rid of them when I got my BILLY!!!! Chows are not good either, they are nippers dont like kids, and anything small, chiuawa, peikanees....nippers also cause they gotta prove something.....
Border Collie...perfect

Any kind of small breed dog. Only because they are lap-sized with a big dog complex!

Either a Labrador Retriever or a Golden Retriever or a Cocker Spaniel. I would love to have a Retriever/Spaniel Mix!
