Im a single mom and dont get home from work until about 5 each night, then I have to cook, and get my daughter ready for bed etc. So how do I find time to exercise? What are some simple fast ways to exercise without taking time away from my daughter? She is only 4 so she cant do a lot with me like walking or running.

I'm a day care teacher and there are plenty you can do with your daughter. I am usually with 2 1/2- 3 1/2's about 16 of them and thats my work our. By 4 your daughter should be able to ride a scooter or tricycle. Try her on the scooter and you jogging :) you'll be surprised how fast she can go. Or take her to the park and play with her :)

Your right, she can't walk or run with you but she can ride her bike while you walk or run. You can take a class together once a week too, like a self defense class. If its an option for you financially there are many gyms that offer self defense classes for kids, so you could work out while she's learning. I imagine she's in daycare all day so you probably don't want to put her into a daycare at the gym while you work out, but there is such a thing. You might even get a sports utility stroller for her so that she can start walking with you and then ride for the rest of your walk/run. It will give her exercise and let you warm up. If there is any way you can fit it in while she's at a friends house you could go for a 45 minute bike ride, or once again take her along. There are many accessories for young kids riding behind there parents, from carts that are enclosed, to chairs mounted on the back of the bike, to a smaller bike on the back. You can even go hiking with her on weekends. Kids love to explore the outdoors. One of the best pieces of exercise equiptment is a balance ball or a swiss ball. Its very kid safe and great to have around the house. you can do sit ups on it, find different ways to balance on it that tighten a body part to work it. you can even do push ups on it.

I hope this helps, feel free to email me if you need more ideas, good luck.

I am also a single mother and i don't get home until 6 and I leave for work at 6am, my daughter is into sports in the evening in which I have to be there to watch her games etc. I have 2 dogs and I get up every morning at 4 run them and I also work out during my lunch hour. I have a gym at work but even if you don't you could always walk. I also prepare meals on weekends and make things as healthy and convenient as possible. When my daughter was very young and I didn't have dogs, I got up earlier every morning and ran on the treadmill. If you work out in the morning you get it out of the way and can feel good you did it.

I would try working out in the morning--I've found that it's very refreshing and gives you more energy for the day! You can pop in a dance aerobic video or do pilates, etc. while your daughter is still sleeping. That way, it's done and out of the way for the day and you can't use the excuse "I'm so tired..."

If that doesn't work for you, find a gym that offers a babysitting service. I've even heard of some YMCA's that have Mommy & Me programs so that's something else to look into.

Best of luck and health to you. :-D

Exercise during every thing you do, walk straight and fast, twist you body, dance while cooking, play with your daughter raise her up and down (don't drop) , move every part of your body in every act at home (not in front of strangers)

There are plenty of DVDs you can play. I bet your daughter would enjoy doing them with you...this sets a great example for a healthy lifestyle.

You can also pull/push her along with you on a walk in a wagon or stroller.

Yog or Aerobics are better ones, but you can try exercises tought to school students. You can do them at your home when your daughter is in bed at morning.
