JW began in 1872 through the teaching of Charles Taze Russell, who at that time was a clothing merchant. Born in 1852, he was not educated beyond the seventh grade, had had no theological training and did not know Greek or Hebrew. Although he became rich through his religious teaching and writing, he tried to defraud his wife of the support ordered by the court after she divorced him.

The present doctrines of the JW are those of Charles Russell, with additons and changes in order to get around his unfulfilled predictions, i.e., the end of this age in 1914. Not much is said about "Pastor Russell" or his books now.

The beliefs of the JW are a mixture of ideas of their own and borrowings from the Adventists and Mormons. In 1950 the JW put out their own translation of the New Testament, which they call the New World Translation. This contains many passages "translated" to suit their beliefs.

They put into Scripture passages meanings which are not there. They take small passages in the Bible and twist them out of their surroundings to prove what they want, or say that they are meant to be prophecies concerning their group.

They teach that before being born as a man, Christ was Michael the archangel. Then they say that throughout His earthly life He was mortal man and no more. They make Him a small god.

This is not even the tip of the ice berg, but long enough here.

It's funny reading what some people believe about Jehovah's witnesses, my mother has been a witness for 30 years and would be glad to answer your questions for you, email me any questions and I will forward them to her to answer. i saw a reply from another girl above me here, she sounds like a practising Jehovah's Witness so you could also ask her. Don't listen to people who are not JW's as they often give false and misleading answers, there is a lot of bad press that is not true about the religion. I am not a practising witness and do not have interest in any religions really but I do know that there are a lot of false things said about the witnesses, for example, they are NOT a cult.

To find the true and correct information regarding Jehovah's Witnesses, you need to talk with them directly, just like if you wanted to know where the bananas a company ships come from, you have to ask them. Asking or listening to people who do not work for this company will not give you accurate information.

You can find out accurate information by contacting Jehovah's Witnesses at the local Kingdom Hall. Or visit http://www.watchtower.org

we as Jehovah Witneses will always give you a straight answer. if we don't know a answer to your question, we will tell you that we don't know and will find out the answer and get back to you. we do believe in Jesus Christ and he is the son of the Most Holy Father Jehovah. we are not a cult. we live in our own homes, your neighbor may be a Jehovah Witness. we shop in the same stores that you do. we don't celebrate holidays because they are man made. they make stores rich, but we do give our children gifts all year so that they don't miss out of gifts. thanks to all the brothers and sisters who agree with me. people don't understand us as Jehovah Witnesses. they rather listen to lies. they should visit a kingdom hall or www.watchtower.org. everyone is invited to come

To get a straight answer you need to ask something more specific. We are Christians just like most people. However, we don't celebrate many christian holidays because the base of them are pagan. But we do believe in JESUS. He is the son of God (Jehovah) to us also. But, we believe in paradise on earth after armagedon and that Jesus died for our sins. So tell me what you want to know and I'll try to help. We do not believe that only 144000 will be saved that is the number of people who will go to heaven. Every one else worthy will inherit a paradise on earth.

If even then you remain hostile toward me and refuse to obey, I will inflict you with seven more disasters for your sins. I will release wild animals that will kill your children and destroy your cattle, so your numbers will dwindle and your roads will be deserted. (Leviticus 26:21-22
Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children. (Isaiah 13:15-18 NLT

Pretty much this: Armageddon will come, only Jehovah's Witnesses will be spared and will inherit the Earth, where they'll have the task at hand to rebuild a Utopic society--based on their beliefs....and all will be perfect.

They don't believe Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, and part of the Triune Godhead. Most probably they won't be able to say that Jesus came in the flesh (cf. 1 Joh. 4)
