He crys and carries on. Has even talked about suicide. He's on prozac now but it doesn't seem to be working. He's really pathetic.

You can't stop any one from loving you because it really is up to them to see the light.
My advice would be to let him go slowly, bit by bit. Don't push him away but try to be compassionate about the whole thing.
You have already told him that you don't love him so now maybe you could say to him that you will visit, go out or be with him sometimes ( you can plan dates ) but not all of the time. After a while he should notice the bond you and him once had begin to loosen.
Judging by what you have told us about him he may still take it a little hard but in the end it will be over; if that's what you want.
Good luck with it and remember, even though he might seem pathetic he is still human. Show him some kindness and try to help him through it.

I was in this situation with a guy, who to this day is still in love with me. It is pretty pathetic. I suppose this is how guys feel when they break it off with us and we carry on. The point is people are people. Women do not have the market cornered on feelings. Guys, while they don't often show it, get hurt just like we do. You can't make this guy stop loving you anymore than you can make yourself love him. It's free will. Leave him alone and let him get over you in his own way in his own time. The thing is to cut all ties, there is no way you can be friends with him (this is a mistake I made. The more I tried to be his friend, the more he kept declaring his love for me, it was awful).

Good luck.

only 2 things you can do, and don't react to his reactions:

1) tell him + show him you're with someone else
then,
2) totally cut off all ties with him

be strong and resist his pathetic cries, and believe me, in time he will leave you alone. the worst thing i had to do was laugh at my ex when he was crying (obviously, i felt really ****).. you have to be really cold to his problems, his tears, his heart, everything. it's called being cruel to be kind. but trust me, not only will he leave you alone, he'll also be a much stronger man. and oh yeah! in case you're wondering, your cruelty/knowledge of your cheating on him (in his head) is the only thing that can put him off.

but if you do think he's really too sensitive (mentally) to handle it, talk to his family and get them to help him emotionally as well as seek professional help

You can never make someone love you just like you cant make someone stop loving you. If he really loves you then he will never be able to fully get over you. He might move on with his life but he will always have you in his heart!

Unfortunately, you can not make him stop. One cannot control one's heart. The only thing you can really do is tell him to leave you alone, and hopefully he will. If it gets to the point where is pretty much stalking you and what not, have a peace order placed against him.

Let his family know what he has said and walk away. You can not be held captured by a sick person, he is not your responsibility. As long as you were kind in your break up, go knowing you did the right thing.

You can't stop him, he also needs to go back & get his meds changed, as they aren't the right ones for him. I had a roomie who was depressed & she had to try like 8 different meds, b4 one finally worked.

Well it is very easy. Start getting closer to someone he does not like. Yes never speak to him. Behave as if you do not care. And if you can not do all these, then may be you like him somewhere
