As much as I love my cat she really acts like my shadow. She follows me to room to room including the bathroom. She was never like this before...she has become very attached to me after my other cat died. (can't get another cat now)

How do I discourage it?

My cat does the same thing....only because he is a major mama's boy...I don't think you can discourage it. It seems as though she is maybe lonely, and perhaps suffering from seperation anxiety from the death of his companion....she loves you and wants to hang on to what she has left.

Obviously the cat is lonely and misses the other one. This is normal. Cats have feelings and need love too! Maybe get another cat to keep that one company.

You answered your own question. Your other cat died and now your pet is afraid of being alone. Pets have FEELINGS. They need company, warmth and companionship. Without a friend, your pet needs to be with you all the time. The only solution to this is another companion for your cat.

Why would you discourage it? Cats are great to cuddle with and play with..... get it a stuffed cat toy and put some nip on it and watch the fun... in time the cat will adjust to it being the only cat there.

You have answered the question yourself.. she is lonely since the other cat died. Either get another cat, or spend more time holding and petting her until she feels more secure.

You're cat loves you and is mourning the other cat. All animals need companionship. If you can't give your cat companionship, figure out a way to get another cat to be its friend.

I have noticed in most animals that are really close to another they tend to get depressed and or very lonely. She just wants to be around you right now because she feels that sense of loss.
Once she gets used to the situation she won't follow you around so much.

He loves you. When I go to bathroom in middle of the night, my cat pushes open the door and wants to be petted. Get used to it

AW. Poor kitty. Don't discourage it yet, she's upset by your other cat dying. Maybe she sticks close to you because she's afraid you will leave too. Give her some time to adjust. Find activities to keep her busy, try not to do anything to disrupt her routine.
