All available data shows that spaking is harmful to children, that's why the american academy of pediatrics has strongly denounced any type of hitting of a child by an adult. People who spank their kids probably have good intentions, but if they did a little research, they would see that there is quite a bit of data that shows at best no benefit, and at worst some significant harm to children.
This is even more true in countries where spanking is not universally practiced. In middle eastern countries where spanking and beating children is almost universal the studies show less harmful differences between those who are spanked and those who are not.
Any practice that shows children that violence is a legitimate way to end conflicts in the home is probably a bad idea. Remember, the bible also condones slavery, so if you have turned away from that teaching, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to turn away from hitting your children to solve problems.

Spare the rod is correct. Spoil the child is inaccurate. If you do not spare the rod, the child will remember the rod more than the lesson that should be learned. Rods are only for dogs not children. Talk to your child, give her/him all you got, answer all her/his questions, play with him/her as often as you can. If you do not have time, make time, answer their assignments. If you can not make time, how did you become a parent in the first place? Do not let him/her tell her problems to somebody else before you, just because you do not listen. If he/she makes mistakes help solve the consequences. Blame does not solve anything. It is a waste of energy. I spared the rod but my child was not spoiled. My child is still as sweet as can be.

Crap parenting advice.
Why reinforce the negative when you could reinforce the positve? You wouldn't hit someone with learning difficulties or an elderly person for not doign something right - what makes it okay to hit a child? It's bullying, plain and simple.
There are many, many ways to sanction a child. Hitting/smacking is a way of venting an adult's frustration and lack of control. It punishes the child for the adult's failings.
To the person who asked if you'd ever worked with children who weren't hit - I worked with kids who *were*. Not a happy sight.

I don't really get the meaning of that (I'm not a native English speaker), but I would never beat my child. Violence is never a solution. Try to be friends with your child. Use his native curiousity to lead him on the right way. I don't have a child yet but I think this is the right way. If at some point wasn't not sure I can do this I wouldn't have a baby.

You have a child who keeps running in the street. You talk to him and explain he might get hurt or hurt someone else and he does it again-you try again-and he does it again-you yell and he does it again-you shake-and he does it again-sometimes he needs more (out of love not anger) So you spank-(not beat out of anger) sometimes it gets the message across-better. This happens in many households. Along with playing with fire-running into a lake-talking to strangers. The rod is used with love for correcting a sometimes-willful child.

Extremely sound advice. All around the US and you hear of kids yelling at their parents, insulting their teachers; I once heard a kid about 9/10 years old call his mother a b****, if that child isn't spoilt I don't know who is. I don't believe in abusing kids, but a spanking when deserved goes a loooong way.

The rod of correction is a measuring rod. A parent is supposed to teach their child to measure thei life against others. It was never meant that one should use it to beat children.

a million: "Spare the rod injury the youngster" would not even look interior the Bible. that is from a poem written over 1000 years later. that is from a poem referred to as Hudibras by ability of Samuel Butler, and reads, "Love is a boy by ability of poets styl'd; Then spare the rod, and injury the youngster. " Hudibras, by ability of ways, is an epic poem that mockingly takes a mocking tone of non secular fervor interior the era wherein it became written (the English Civil conflict, the poem became written between 1663 and 1678), which became characterised by ability of Puritanical hysteria and evangelistic Presbyterian fervor interior the warring uk. The quote became taken fullyyt out of context of the poem, attributed to the Bible, and mockingly used as justification for the very attitudes it condemned. 2: The Bible does produce different stuff approximately hitting that seems to motivate it, the e book of Proverbs is particularly great in this, yet additionally says issues fairly contradictory to justification of hitting; certainly, it would desire to be argued that the two the historic and Biblical Jesus in all hazard would not have used actual stress to coerce a new child, from what all of us be responsive to of his character the two traditionally and from the Bible. He became a pacifist: the closest he ever got here to violence himself or inciting others to violence, so a methods as i will tell is knocking over the tables of they funds-changers on the Temple. and 3: the Bible additionally says stuff like shun a female while she's menstruating, do no longer consume scavengers (crabs are scavengers!), and that that is alright to very own slaves in the event that they arrive from a neighboring u . s . a ./kingdom. i'm enormously useful we don't bypass around asking women whether or no longer they are on their era so as that we can stay away from them; maximum folk consume scavengers of a few style without 2nd thought; and final I checked, i won't be able to purchase a Canadian. whether the Bible DID command father and mom to hit their toddlers, and whether that quite IS what "spare the rod" became relating, under no circumstances does that advise that is acceptable in the present day, or that that determination would desire to be one that the father and mom who use it is going to stress on the rest human beings. human beings have been utilising faith as a gadget to justify what they want to do for all eternity: basically with the aid of fact your e book says to do it or human beings have accomplished it previously, does no longer advise it particularly is a solid thought or that it is going to likely be compelled on genuinely every person.
