Large databases show their worth under load, by scaling to a large number of users or a large amount of data. While trial software will show you features, it will not show you how stable, recoverable, or secure the software is. You would need someone who is knowledgeable about either database in order to get the best features implemented.
Some things to consider are the platforms that you are going to use to host your database. If you have no unix in-house, you are probably better off with sql server, if you have unix in house, oracle will probably be the better choice.

Each has it benefits and disadvantages.
an advantage:
mysql - is free /opensource
ms sql server - has graphical front end
oracle - is also a object oriented database

disadvantage:
mysql: no gui- must download dependently and lacks many advanced commands

ms sql server - takes up memory- the gui

oracle - databases with little data get very large

the only way to find which is suitable for your needs is to try to download and install.
my sql is free
ms sql server - get msde- desktop edition - free
oracle - there is a lite version that is free
