i have a one year old maltese named princess, and she went in heat in feb. well in march she gained alot of weight (3 pounds) and she's all lazy and doesnt want to be her active self, witch is unusual. she has a little alien toy that she carries everywhere with her and she cuddles with it and she also cleans it alot, like it's her baby. its now june and she's somewhat back to normal but hse still carries her "baby" around, she's getting tobe active again and is taking walks and going outside again, but i'm still kinda worried, what happened to her? did she go through a false pregnancy? or could something really be wrong with her?

If she had gotten pregnant, she would be delivering soon, so you would absolutely know it.
Small dogs are famous for experiencing "false pregnancies". Basically, they come into heat, and for one reason or another, her body believes she is pregnant. She will then go through the motions of caring for a litter. Until you get that toy that she carries around away from her, it will continue. Once the toy is taken from her, she will begin to go back to normal.
Some dogs will do this each time they come into heat, some will only do it occasionally. Really, it's nothing to worry about. But if you are concerned, talk to your vet. Not any need for a visit really. Just give them a call and they can give you some tips on how to make this easier.

It sounds to be like possibly she had a false pregnancy or the pups absorbed themselves back into the momma's body. This happen frequently. Has her belly swelled? Can you feel any activity when you lay your hand on her belly? Did her nipples swell and pink up?
If you are worried, call a vet, but I think your little Maltese should be fine.

Maternal instincts exist even if there is not a pregnancy. If the maltese is one, this should be her first heat and the hormonal changes alone can cause weight gain.
Ask the vet next time you take her in for a check-up.

If she hasn't been mated it does sound like she could be suffering from a false/phantom pregnancy - esp if she is mothering her toys. Is she lactating? There are different ways of treating this - go to your vet who should be able to give her 2 injections.
Probably best to do an ultrasound first to see if she is having pups! Although it takes 9 weeks for dogs to have their puppie so if she first showed signs in February this would mean her pups would be due in April!!

I'm now not certain approximately the legislation or if there are any, however a puppy needs to be in warmness to be pregnant. How ancient was once the opposite puppy and was once she even in warmness? I do not suppose you must ought to pay for the puppy to get spayed. Vets do not by and large love to spay puppies in warmness besides. So it's not going that if the puppy was once in warmness that it could be getting spayed the next day to come. Before you do pay for the spay get a few extra information.

it's likely it's a false pregnancy. are her teats swollen?
a little agressive when you approach her nest/baby?
take her to the vet, he'll give a injection or someting to your dog.
but spay her for good of all. there are hundreds of dogs
dying today because of irresponsible owners.
