Korea is a cheap place to live.
There are monthly rental places available, or you could pay a lump sum (30,000US+) for a place for 2 years, then when you move out they will give you that money back. Basically the landlord lives off the interest that money incurrs.
Monthy rentals generally ask for a key deposit also, which you will get back.
Everything else in Korea is cheap, public transport is effective and economical. Food depends on where you go... but no need for it to be expensive. Fruit and Vegetables are expensive in Korea.
Entertainment is cheap.

Apartments are quite expensive mainly because they look at it as an investment. The key deposit can run you about $5,000 but it is returned to you when you leave the apartment. Outside of apartment costs other things for the most part are a little low in cost, although it is hard to find things in small portions. Remember that a big part of expense will be if you insist on eatting Western food all the time, as that becomes very expensive. Eatting inKorean restaurants is extremely cheap. But as with any foriegn food you need to find out what it is you are eatting beforehand. If you are living in a larger metropolitan area there will be lots of people who speak English and can help you out. They love spending time with foriegn English speakers cause it gives them the opportunity to practice their English. For the most part your main expenses will be food, but everything else is relatively cheap. Taxi fare and subway fare are really low, taxi starts at around $2 and subway fare runs around $1. Enjoy your time, there is so much to see and unlike at home tourist areas are usually the same price as everywhere else. Plus getting into some of the tourist sites is dirt cheap, getting into the biggest palace in Seoul runs around $1. So have fun, and enjoy yourself.

It depends on what type of accommodation you desire. Apartment rentals can be quite expensive and they sometimes require you have the whole years rent up front (called key money). You can also stay in a minbak, which is like a home stay which will also include food. Food, entertainment (like movies and alcohol), and transportation are inexpensive in Korea so if you can manage to get a cheap place to live, you can save quite a bit of money.

I lived in Pusan and Seoul South Korea for two years. The cost of living is cheap. On average food is about 30000 Won or about $30USD. Apartment are about 50000Won or 500USD a month. Subway pre-paid pass is about 20000 won a month or about $20USD. CD and DVD are cheap too. Even Brown cabs (NOT BLACK CABS) are cheap about 30000 or $30USD to go just about anywhere in a major city. Foreign food is expensive with the exception of fast food. Look at
Pusanweb.com
look at the Forum section.

i do no longer recommend to sound harsh or something yet why could you choose to stay in South Korea in case you do no longer understand something approximately it? do you understand any rules there? money? Language? artwork? that is historic previous? living there wont be relatively person-friendly in case you do no longer understand something approximately Seoul. Why do no longer you reside in Manila in case you're a proud filipina? maximum folk such as you basically choose to circulate there because of the fact of that is pop custom.
