No it will be gone! The iron in the sink is the universal inter-galaxy SOS symbol for aliens. They will come thinking one has been trapped only to find an empty house. Punishment for prank calls is incineration of the house! OK OK Metal against metal will not burn! If there are any plastic items in sink they will probably melt. The iron probably catch on fire but this should trip the breaker. If curtains are hanging around the sink then you better leave now! Your house is more important than your Job! It is better to be safe than sorry! You could call a local fire house and ask them if they ever had this kind of emergency before.

Yes. Most likely.... but I would strongly suggest going home at lunch time and turning it off just in case. Flat irons will usually keep an even temperature (the one that you set it on) and will not get hotter (otherwise you would burn all your hair off). On top of that, leaving it in the sink (as long as you didn't leave the water running) was probably the best thing since porcelain is durable.

Most flat irons turn themselves off after a while. If you left it in the sink, there's another plus on your side. If it didn't turn off automatically, then porcelain won't cause a fire either. If this is a habit, and yours doesn't automatically turn off, maybe it's time to invest in one that does. Much cheaper than replacing your abode.

If your sink is made of porcelain and nothing flammable is in the area , it will probably be ok. But if your sink is made of plastic or fiberglass then it is remotely possible that a fire could be caused.

Hopefully your home is OK.

Most irons have an auto shutoff feature.

Hope everything's OK!
