the name it's self originates from the west coast of Scotland, nearer Ireland than Scandinavia( with Scots surnames there are two different mixes 1) Scots and Gaelic(i.e. welsh or Irish) or 2) Scots and Scandinavian( IE vikings) the name sounds more Gaelic than Scandinavian
