It's kind of difficult to have a view about your native tongue - it's just part of you.
I've heard that it's very difficult to learn because it's full of contradictory grammatical rules etc.
I like it - it may be a right old mix of a lot of other languages but it was the first written modern language (and before people start howling about Aramaic and Latin and Greek - I said MODERN language - Kind Aelfred in the ninth century)
One thing I can never understand is why American's have fropeed the 'u' from colour, honour etc - the 'ou' expresses the dipthong and the way 'colour' is pronounced is definately not with the same sound either side of the 'l', so why change the spelling?
I also like the fact that English is the only language with a dipthong and also that we are the only language to pronouce 'j' 'dzgh' - every other language pronouces 'j' as we would 'y', and it's nice to have something different about your language.

Difficult language to learn compared to some others but not as difficult as some of the asian languages. English is a superior language and is the language of the business world. Hispanics should be required to learn before living in this country though....

English is a wonderful language. It is a dynamic language with new words coming into being or adopted every year. Sadly, certainly in England it has not been taught properly for many years but hopefully the situation is improving now grammar is being taught again.
One of my favourite pastimes is to read old poetry and texts such as Shakespeare to appreciate its richness.
I am lucky with English being my native language and understood by so many people across the world. It is a language which you can always learn more about.
PS Colour is spelt with the U and Night is not spelt Nite

It's a difficult language to learn, however, it seems to be the one that is spreading the most.
Just like people in the Southern areas of the U.S. (california, new mexico, Arizona) need to learn Spanish for the immigrants, various others need to realize they need to learn English, even if it is difficult.

It is more straight to the point and flexible than other languages.
But the biggest myth I hear is that it is the most difficult language on earth.......simply ridiculous compared to very difficult languages like Russian, Chinese, Arabic , Sanskrit etc..and so many others.

I think it would be difficult to learn as a second language.
My issue with it stems from the many who don't bother to learn it and use it properly as their native and usually only language.

It's one of the most difficult languages to learn. Even "native speakers" don't get grammar and pronunciation right half the time!

It's hard to learn and people do not use the language properly, even those that have it as the primary language.
