It looks like an open field. Any of the 12 ponies could win it. Yet which one? Long shot? or a Favorite?

Yes, macarthur, there is a logical reason to bet on certain horses in this race. I threw out several with one quick glance at the pp's. The reason? Because these throw outs will be dang tired when they get to 10 furlongs. And the Belmont Stakes is 12 furlongs.

Who will stop first? High Finance.

Who will make the distance with energy to spare? I see four. Oh So Awesome, Jazil, Steppenwolfer, and Bluegrass Cat. I've been looking forward to seeing Steppenwolfer run in this race, but Oh So Awesome has grabbed my attention. I rate him as just as good as Steppenwolfer, and even though he's a turf runner from overseas he does have one race under his belt on the Belmont track (last race, in the slop, 8 1/2 furlongs, 3rd place, Jockey was Mike Smith, and comment line is "Good finish inside."). His morning line is 20-1, he has Mike Smith (who won the Derby with Giacomo last year), and it's suppose to rain at Belmont tomorrow.

Doesn't Oh So Awesome sound like the best value bet? My predicted order of finish is Oh So Awesome, Steppenwolfer, Bluegrass Cat, and Jazil.

My money is on Jazil. He has a nice come-from-behind kick that should serve him well and put him in front at the finish. The extra track in the Belmont will suit his running style better than the shorter distances in the Wood and the Derby. In both those races he came from way back to finish still gaining ground but ran out of track both times. The Belmont should set him up perfectly to get the job done this time around.

I like Bluegrass Cat. He ran a great race in the Derby, and there may not be the stampede down to the turn as there was in the derby. Just because the race is longer does not give the closers the advantage. Less speed means slower fractions

12 isn't an unusally large field for such a major race, i would lean more towards a favorite.

Box Bob N'John, Bluegrass Cat, Deputy Glitters and Steppenwolfer for a superfecta

Wind will be a major factor on Saturday. Oh So Awesome should like the distance. Weight will not be an issue.
