It goes up all the time... a lot of people are now living with their parents well into their thirties. That's because it's cheaper for one thing, and it's also hard to find the right person to marry when your living with your parents ;) Some parents may also want you to stick around when they get old and need someone to look after you..
My friend moved out before he was twenty. I'm still, sort of, living with and being supported by my mother, but I want that to end soon, after I've finished my Ma, before I'm twenty-seven. You can keep pushing it, but I think parents are happy to see their children become independent. I'd say get moving as soon as you've finished education... stick around whilst you're looking for a job, then get a place of your own.

At 18 you are legally an adult and should be taking care of yourself. If you are in education or an apprenticeship etc. staying at home longer is acceptable. If you are not in education you should be working and paying rent.
I totally disapprove of young people that stay home and scrounge of their hard-working parents. Being young is tough, but the point is to work hard to make your own life better, not live off your parents earnings. Too many kids won't move out until they can afford a fancy flat and all the toys that they were used to at home. Ridiculous. I think parents should be stricter about this.

Before the baby boomers generation it was actually very common to live with your parents until you got married. Family was very important and also the baby boomers were the first and probably the last to really leave home at an early age and make decent money by themselves. My dad born in 1950 had a house and a Porsche by my age and I am getting paid more then he was and I'm living paycheck to paycheck with a roommate in an apartment with a 16 year old truck.

As soon as you're mature enough to handle the responsibility of running a household and paying the monthly bills, I was 23 when I moved out and it was the best thing I ever did. I now get on with my parents much better as we're under each others feet

It really depends upon your situation. Are you taking college classes? If so there is nothing wrong with living at home. If not, are you working? Make sure you are contributing to the household. I would say 23 is a good age to get out of the house at the latest. But really, everyone's situation is different.

As soon as you get you are settled down to a good job and are able to rent a place. If your parents allow you to stay with them, then do please give them a monthly contribution of about $300 for taking care of your food, utilities and laundry etc. If you are a guy, then move out asap if you have an active sex life or have friends over alot. If you are a girl and have similar lifestyle, also move out as soon as you are working.

My older sister moved out when she was 18 and I moved out when I was 20. But each person is different. I think if you are getting 25 years or older and your still living with your parents (with exceptions of course) it is time to grow up and move out.

as soon as you have the money to. No-one can afford to buy houses anymore, so you'll have to rent, but seriously, people need their own space. I moved out at 19.
