wow what a great uncle to have both his nieces at the mall with him. great job. but alot of mens bathrooms have baby changing stations installed in them. and i don't think men would mind as much if they saw a 10 yr old girl come out of a mens bathroom as much as the woman mind you standing in the ladies room. but maybe next time let her go in by herself and you stand at the door cuz they might think you are doing something else to those girls then just letting them take a potty break.

If there was no changing table in the men's bathroom, then you did not have any choice, and that would have been a perfect excuse for the woman who confronted you. You could have also asked her to watch the door to warn others while your niece finished.
If there was a changing table in the men's bathroom, then you could have asked the 10 year old to wait at the door while you checked to be sure the men's room was empty. Then you could have escorted her to a stall, changed the baby, and asked her to wait before coming out until the room was empty again, in case any other men entered.

It was definatly not bad parenting and that woman judged you without knowing what was actually going on. You probably didn't take her into the mens room because of the urinals out in the open (or the lack of a changing table in the men's room), right? Because of the open urinals in the men's room, I really don't see another way to do it besides letting the 10 year old go potty in the womans room by herself, then leaving her outside of the men's room while you go in to change the other one. THAT doesn't sound like a good idea, either. I think you made the right choice. And as for the judgemental woman, blow it off. They are just not being understanding regarding your problem. Best of luck next time.

in a way it was wrong, but you didnt know better...
being the age the children are you didnt really have a choice.. some times it easier to take the children in to the males toilet, but for the fact they dont have a change table in there makes things harder, so you used your right instincts.. good on you... but sorry for the fact that the woman didnt understand... may be as an uncle this could be your little project, to get facilities to accomodate for male parrents...or uncles!!

Well a women's bathroom, even a public one, can be a very private place so it certainly could have looked invasive and disgusting. However, you had a duty as a carer to be there, and well within your right to be there, and anyone who understood that wouldn't have had a problem with it.

Well, no you were right because you were only looking out for them. However, if you have to go out again try to find a family restroom so that she could go alone. or try telling her you will be standing outside the door and if she isn't out in five minutes you will check on her.
