People do care! A lot of people don't smoke because of their health, and a lot of people who do smoke would like to quit, but they can't. Some of those people will say they don't care just to make themselves feel better.

Some smokers genuinely enjoy it of course, and for them it's worth the health damage to continue doing something they like. Other smokers still believe that there is no health hazard in smoking at all, and that anything that shows it is harmful is just a lie. Actually, many countries have no health warnings on cigarettes- Japan, Korea, China, and I'm sure there are a lot of others...

It seems that some people have a genetic tolerance to smoking, so they actually suffer fewer harmful effects anyway. Those are the people who live to 102, even though they smoke every day. It gives other smokers hope, they may not have the tolerance genes, but they saw someone who did and expect that they can do it too.

They do, but they also realise there are other things in life than just being uber-healthy every minute of the day. There's pleasure, for instance, and they get pleasure from smoking. And of course with the rabid anti-smoking lobby that now exists, there's also a new form of pleasure in smoking - simply to get on the neres of people who say they should quit. Rampant pro-smoking comedian Bill Hicks probably said it best when he said "I now realise that I smoke for one reason only - Spite. My biggest fear if I quit smoking is that I'd have to hang out with Non-Smokers".

It's not that they don't know about the damage, it's not that they don't care. They just don't live in fear, whether that's right or wrong.

People do care that smoking is bad for them, however alcohol is far more dangerous and poses far more health risks than smoking!!!
The smoking ban is completley ridiculous because if the government truly thought smoking was that bad for us then they would ban smoking altogether, the truth however is that they will never ban it as they make far too much money from fags!!!
It would be better for smokers if it was banned coz then they would get legalised drop in centres so they could smoke, just like the f****** heroin users!!!!!!!
Besides, you never hear of a fight breaking out over fags, nor of someone getting drunk on nicotine!!!!

Because people are short sighted. They never consider the distant future and live in the here and now. The harmful result is only seen after year's of abuse. It's the same reason why people don't care about eating junk food (colon cancer), tanning (skin cancer), or even drinking alcohol (damages cellular development).

1. It's addictive.
2. It curbs hunger.
3. You just can't get off it that easily no matter how hard you try.
4. For some, smoking reminds them of happier times.
5. You're gonna die anyway so screw it.

Because people have a negative look on life and "don't care" enough about themselves. It's ridiculous how some people feel, life's too short and must be enjoyed to the fullest.

Simply because the addiction is too strong. Once you've had your first cigarette the need for more outweighs any thoughts you may have about harmful effects.
