the highest mega pixel possible at the moment i think is canon eos 1d which is 16.7 mega pixel which is for around 10000$ or Rs . 4.5 lakhs but according to me a 5 to 6 mega pixel camera is sufficient if you r not a professional

You can go with the digital film back for medium format cameras and achieve the highest megapixels.
1. Sinar X Camera with a Better Light 10k-2 4X5 digital film back. Image size over 420 Megapixels.
2. Hasselblad H2D-39 at 39 Megapixels.
3. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II at 16.7 Megapixels and 4 frames per second.
4.Canon EOS-5D at 12.8 Megapixels and 3 frames per second.

The Canon 1DSMk2 has the highest megapixel count in an SLR.
16.7 megapixels for $7000 (lenses not included).
Then there are studio cameras that go up to 48 magapixels.
