An airstrike is an action, so there isn't an acronym for "killed in airstrike"

Both would be considered killed in action.

I am glad he has been removed from the equasion. Although I don't think that is the complete solution to the problem. But it sure won't hurt.

I do expect a spike in attacks but then a decline.

Yep, seems to me that an airstrike is an action so KIA would fit.
