2 year old chihuahua is thin. doesn't like dog food?

my chihuahua doesn't like the pellet dog food. he wants the fresh meat stuff. its too expensive to do that all the time. what should i do?

Your dog knows that if he does not eat the dry stuff something better is comming. Your dog has you trained.
Pick out a high quality dry dog food and use it. Put down a bowl of it in the morning and refill it when it becomes low. Let the dog eat anytime he wants to. Make sure you have fresh water also.
Other than that no and I mean NO other food.
He will eat.
A very wise old vet told me "a dog will not starve itself to death"
It is true.
But as long as your dog knows that you will provide something better he is not going to eat dry dog food.

These are good high quality foods that will provide everything your pet will need.

1. If it is cost effective for you - try buying chicken and steaming it - that way it is healthy for the dog and he will not turn it down.

2. You can try to put some of the Iams dog gravy on the food to see if he will eat the dry food that way.

3. ***Another way that works( i do this with my Yorkie who will not even touch dry dog food) is to place some water in a bowel with the dry food and heat it up for about 30 - 40 seconds. Then let it sit until it has cooled and the food is soft then stir it up. He will most likely eat this. (I usually mix in a sm spoonful of turkey or chicken baby food and he absolutely loves it.) This way will probably cost you the least amount of money.

Dogs need dry food. If they lack it they can form digestive problems. My siberian husky is also very picky. The only dog food she will eat is nutra choice for puppies. This food is one of the best even ask the vet. Try this or experiment with different types of foods. He/she wil soom like something.

One thing we used to do in the bet hospital is put a tiny bit of baby food or cottage cheese in it. But just a tiny bit to flavor it up and then try to get them to eat just the dry food after that. So get them to like the kibble with the baby food first. Or you can try changing the brand. Maybe he just doesn't like that kind.

chihuahua s r very particular n choosy so wat u can do try some different brands n if he likes one then stick to it or else find out what r the other things ur dog luves to eat by giving him fruits or boiled vegetables n either make it a point to provide him with meat in every meal or just stop giving him even a lit piece of it as it reminds of its taste n thus he starvs to have meat only.

If all you put out is dry kibble, then he will eat. No dog will starve itself. Try mixing wet food with the dry kibble.
