In Deuteronomy it is clearly saying
24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

No, what that verse says is that everyone will bear his own sin. In other words, they will answer for whatever they do. It does not say no sacrifice is needed.

There is no sacrifice we can make that can purchase our salvation. For our salvation or redemption, no sacrifice is needed because Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, he was crucified for all of us, all we have to do is to come under his covering, accept the sacrifice was made for us and believe the sacrifice has washed away all our sins.

But as Christians and believers in God's word, we will continue to make sacrifices. Jesus said he that lays he hands to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom. He that forsake father, mother, daughter, son etc for the sake of the kingdom will be rewarded in heaven, Luke.9:59-62.

The passage you mentioned is talking about whether or not we are punished for the sins of others. There are 3-5 scriptures like the one you mentioned that say we are not. However, there are at least 20 that say we are.

Here are a few to get you started.

Exodus 20:5 , Deuteronomy 5:9, Exodus 34:7, Numbers 14:18, Deuteronomy 23:2, Deuteronomy 28:18, Isaiah 14:21, Jeremiah 16:10-11

NO, what it meant and was referring to was literally that the children would not be put to death for the sins of their literal fathers. In was a practice, apparently, at that time. Isolating that scripture and applying it to the sacrifice of Jesus would not be accurate. The scriptures are full of support for the need of the sacrifice of Jesus and too many to refer to here. But one that stands out is the scripture that says in effect, in Adam all men die and in Christ, all men are made alive (through his death). Paul gives several discourses on this subject. The apostles , and for that matter all the prophets before Jesus, testified to the need for the sacrifice.

The sins of the father are visited upon the children by means of influence.

If your father is an alcoholic, it is his sin. Unfortunately, you will suffer the consequences and your children will suffer as well because of his influence in your life.

Punishment visited upon the third and fourth generation comes in the form of consequences for the father's sins.

It's not that God holds children accountable, it's that a father's influence is that important and lasting. For good or ill.

I don't quite get your question, Deut 24:16 does not say anything about sacrifices?

It states that He desires mercy more than sacrifices and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
