Of course.. it is the mark of "the beast" as written in the Book of Revelations. What people forget is what the bible says right before it reveals the number 666.

"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: FOR IT IS THE NUMBER OF MAN; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six." Revelations 13:18

THEREFORE the number 666 is the mark of "the beast" AND ALSO the number of man. Notice that John also states that it is only with understanding that man could know this number (and what it means).

Interestingly enough, science has revealed to us knowledge, or wisdom, if you will, that gives us the number of man. The element Carbon is atomic number 6; the atom contains 6 electrons, 6 neutrons, and 6 protons. Humans are mostly carbon, as is our diet. In fact, carbon is the basis of all life on earth, and therefore all known life in the universe.

Is it somehow possible that John had some sort of wisdom far beyond his time? Perhaps he somehow knew some things that it would take science thousands of years to discover? And perhaps some of the symbolism in the book of Revelations exists only because John didn't have the words to explain what he knew.

For example, the number of man, the mark of the beast, 666.

I believe the number is true and it exist, but i don't think it is the number of the devil. The bible says 666 is the number of man and it is easy to derive that, man was created on the sixth day, so its realistic to make it his number. It is the number of the man of sin, the anti Christ who will stand against all that is God, he will rule the world and will deceive them into accepting his mark and making it mandatory for everyone to have it if they are going to be a part of society.
The bible calls it a mark, but it could be any thing, a mark is just something that distinguishes one person from the other, so it could be anything. No wonder some said it was the credit card when it was first issued, i don't know, but one thing i know is, when that time comes, we'll all know.

No. It's a biblical reference in the book of Revelations that's only lead to crackpot theorys and people freaking out about hell, the devil and the end of the world. Which none of these exist.. except the end of the world, that could very well happen if we don't take care of ourselves and see ourselves as one race.. the human race. It's time to stop believing in these ideas as literal references and rather just see them as metaphorical symbols to teach us moral lessons. In fact, the faster we realize this, the sooner we will stop fighting stupid wars about religion and who's god is better than who's. Instead just say my way is not better, it's merely different.
