It can be very damaging, but that depends on you and how often you do it, how you do it and how you treat it afterwards.
To keep a good crown of hair you must not do the scalp frequently, causes baldness after a long period of time or repeat treatments.
You shouldn't keep dying what has been previously dyed so do roots only
If not used to doing yourself go to a salon as they are the professional and it is easy to mess your whole bonce up if not careful.
You can have long beautiful blonde hair if do carefully and treat well afterwards, do not use too much heat like straightners on them
Try not to do too frequently causes thinning big time!!!!

Bleaching Hair
Sunday, May 05, 2002

name Kathy R.
status educator
age 20s

Question - I am a 6th grade science teacher. One of my parents
wanted to know how exactly does the sun bleach your hair. I was not
exactly sure so I am asking you. How does the sun bleach a person's hair?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kathy,

Sunlight is pretty energetic. For example, look how it damages plastics --
like vinyl car roofs. In time, sunlight will degrade some plastics to the
point where they will actually disintegrate.

The molecules responsible for color in the hair are rather fragile. Sunlight
breaks them apart and changes their appearance. Photochemically cut into
fragments, the colored molecules lose their color.

Indeed, the energy of the light is sufficient to actually damage the hair
shaft. Besides bleaching it, the light can make hair brittle. Bear in mind,
except where the hair shaft is attached to the scalp -- in the follicle --
hair is dead tissue. Once damaged, no topical application of any hair-care
product can ever restore it.

I think it damages the hair terribly!I used Garnier Multilights which is nothing but bleaching powder and the solvent, and it dried out my hair like anything.if you want to do it ,you should be prepared to deep condition regularly after that!

get it done by a professional - at home can turn into a disaster!

your hair will dry out - some people have weaker hair than others so be careful!

more so if you do it yourself. especially, for new growth... if you overlap the bleach your hair can turn to cotton candy, or just break of (either ones bad).
