No, cats are just as expensive, and they love to scratch on all your furniture, and if you get a male, and he's dominant, he would spray all over the place. If you are looking for a pet thats cheap and doesn't require any commitment...get a fish

Cats are more independent than dogs, concerning their needs for being walked and constantly petted and played with. However, cats require just as much care as dogs do, regarding their yearly rabies, virus and distemper shots as well as their annual physical examinations. Cats are quieter than dogs. Better yet, they do not normally, require housebreaking. All healthy cats will use their litter pans unless they become ill or were taken from the mother cat before 8 weeks of age. Depending on the breed, some cats are just as affectionate as dogs and easier to transport because of smaller size and lighter weights. Expense should not be the deciding factor between cat and dog. If you have financial concerns, you might consider fish.

It certainly would be. But you may need to do some research on the breed you're thinking of getting.
I bought a Scottish Fold kitten last year, completely unaware of the health issues associated with this particular breed.
A cat is still a commitment (probably as long a commitment as a dog) but they are able to be kept inside a lot more if you don't have much room and they don't have a bark to annoy neighbours!
I'm pro-cat!

I think it depends on the types or breeds of the cat as well. Long haired, persian cats are a bit costly to look after, say, compared to the 'ordinary' house cat. I have one which don't cost me much and is not a lot of commitment.

Cats can be just as expensive or almost as expensive as dogs.
However, they do not require as much attention. You can leave them for hours since they use a liter box.

All pets are alot of commitment...someone said a ferret...I have on, and she requires a ton of attention and work...have to litter train them like a cat, and play with them alot to keep them social. Even any small animal like a rat, hamster, or gerbil will require alot of attention. If you're not willing or able to put time and money into a pet, then maybe you should rethink getting anything furry. Stick with fish. All you have to do is feed them. All animals be it a dog, cat, ferret, rat, mice, hamster, guinea pig, gerbil, bird...require loads of commitment.

dogs and cats both are a lot of money and commitment, you need to pay for the food, the vet, toys etc. save up your money if you really want a dog. for now maybe get a fish?

Definately. There is a big misconception on cats. They are just as lovable but you do have to give them alot of attention when they are kittens. This make a big difference. Mine plays fetch with a ball just like a dog. It's incredible

we have had much better luck with a cat. we had both for a bit and the dog just took too much time. you have to walk him and scoop the poop and wash them and so on... the cat pretty much wants to be loved eat and clean himself. still have to scoop the poop, but not as often, or just buy disposible litter boxes...

Cats can be really expensive- they get vaccinations and into trouble, and the food bills adds up. maybe a guinea pig. they can be handled, fuzzy, and nice. and no big bills. and i don't think it'll get depressed if your not there
