Depending on where you want to fly from, you might want to consider flying to Rotterdam and taking the train (1hr) to Amsterdam. Transavia, the budget airline for KLM do a cheap flight from Stanstead. http://www.transavia.com/en

KLM do the cheapest flights to Amsterdam. Hotel.com is a good site for accommodation they give you distances from from major places of interest.

You should consider the ferry from Newcastle or Hull. You can get some good deals on crossings which are overnight. The food is quiet good and the bars are usually busy if you like that type of thing.

we went with expedia and it worked out ok -KLM is the national airline - Amsterdam is a smallish city with good public transport so you cannot go far wrong!
