He can be worshipped anywhere, but when people gather together for a single purpose, their unity intensifies the experience. It's like watching a sunset vs. watching a sunset with someone you enjoy being around.

The doctrine that God is everywhere or omnipresent is a false doctrine of the catholic church and many born again movements. How come that God is in the bowl of your comfort room? Is God also present in casinos? If God is in the midst of war then there should be no wars. Is God also in present between a man raping a teenager? God is only in heaven.

For my own reasons, i believe in a more personal relationship with God. I pray to him wherever i feel like it.

Because it also says that "where ever two or more are gathered, so to shall I be."
God wants us to pray together. Fellowship is good for us.

For Muslim, we did not have to go to mosque for praying, even in the jungle we can pray as long that place is suitable and not dirty places.. ; )
God always Hear Us Who Pray to Him(GOD)... ; )

and you can pray not only in the temple, you can pray in your room, in your car, practically everywhere as long as you put yourself in His presence.

Sabbath assembly is commanded. We are to "have a speaking relationship with Him" - or not. If we choose not to we will be disposed of. (Not burn forever) He IS God after all! Why keep someone in a perfect kingdom if they don't want to be there? Why keep them anywhere if they don't want to obey?
