Lots trees bloom first, then leaf out. Most of our spring flowering trees in the East and Midwest, most fruit trees, etc...Think of all the decorative trees...Dogwoods, redbuds, flowering peach, Almond, crab apple, etc. ...all bloom, then leaf out.
