If you want to be a TEACHER then you MUST be READY/WILLING/ABLE to do the JOB you were trained for!!!
I expect ANY/ALL/EVERY Teacher to do the job they have been hired to do!!! Just like anyone else in the work force! A day's pay, for a day's work!
I don't feel one bit sorry for any teacher! It's the career choice they went into. If they didn't want to become a teacher then do something else!!! Doctor, Lawyer, Car Mechanic, Waitress/Waiter, Nurse, Firefighter, Police Officer, Secretary etc.
NO one FORCED them to become a TEACHER!!! Free will - Free choice!
If they DON'T like TEACHING - There's the door, Don't let it hit ya on the way out!
There's another Ready, Willing, Able body to take your place!!!
Teachers have BETTER benefits than ANY OTHER PROFESSION!!! They get their summers off, AND winter/spring breaks off. They have better medical insurance coverage. They have better retirement benefits. AS well as other "perks" I am sure.
They don't even "work" a full 40 hour work week! Most ONLY actually "work" about 6 hours per day!
Teachers are, I believe, considered Salary. That means THEY SHOULD WORK AS MANY HOURS POSSIBLE. EVEN IF THAT MEANT WORKING 50, 60 70+ hrs plus a week!
Teachers get the same paycheck every week! There is NO time card they punch in on!
I would like to see ALL teachers punch a time clock for their "Actual" time teaching! That time would not include Lunch, Planning Time, or Special/Elective Time!

Problem is that they MUST teach all of the class, they can't just teach to the 80% who actually could be taught and throw out the other 20%. If they could throw students out, then they could/should teach everything they're teaching now, and then some.
As a basic rule, if they did not have to deal with 'trouble students', they should cover like 10 pages of material per day per class. That's not too much to ask of anyone... (Plus it's not like schoolbooks are really dense college books... half those pages are just pictures anyways)
PS - Here in Oregon, being a teacher is professional suicide. At my high school, ALL teachers worked a minimum of 8 or 9 hours a day, not to mention they were paid crud. They make something like 30K-40K a year, which for people who have master's degrees (required in oregon for high school teachers) is totally absurd.
My calc teacher had a bachelor's degree in physics, and he could EASILY have made double or even triple his salary - and that's not even considering the benefits that he could get working in industry (MUCH better than the school district). Trust me, teachers are not in it for the money.
PS PS - The only reason why my science teacher was teaching was because he made a fortune on AMD stock, so he couldn't care less about the money. He was only in it because he thought he was contributing to society in a positive way, which is the real reason 90% of my high school teachers became teachers.

be real. i think it's fair to expect teachers do do their job for 8 hours a day, which is to teach to the best of their ability.
it's not like teachers are not compensated for their services.
it's not like teachers shouldn't have considered their families when they accepted the position.
it's not like they shouldn't have considered their lives when they accepted the position.
it's not like teachers can't adjust their work schedules by giving up the position.
be real. for the money paid to teachers, which they accepted when they took the job, we can expect them to do the job to the best of their ability for the 8 hours they are at work, just the same as anyone in any other profession should be expected to do.
then again, i suppose it's not just to expect that for the 8 hours a day i assume you are talking about, which is what most people work, that teachers should not do the job they are being compensated to do, for the compensation they agreed to.
exactly, be real.

I've been teaching for 24 years...I teach Special Ed. I have had parents yell at me because I didn't "cure" their child. Most people think that morals and ethics should be taught by parents, and it might have been 30 years ago, but now it's the teachers and not the parents that have to teach the kids EVERYTHING...many kids don't even know right from wrong, they are running the streets at age 10, and the parents don't even care until something happens to them....and then they blame the school... It's a shame

The kids are only in school for about 6 hours - in those 2 other hours teachers can be grading work or making lesson plans. Two of my aunts are teachers, and sometimes work all evening and weekend on school related things. They are not being paid enough for all these hours of work - and the lost time with their family and friends.

What's homeless got to do with school work? The work is the work. If the child is in class and the teacher gives out homework, everyone gets it. You don't get excused just because you're homeless.

Uh... Their jobs. I expect them to do the job they signed on to do. That's not asking to much. They knew about the crappy pay, stress, etc... before they signed on.
