If there is anyone that has had experience with 2 day old puppies, I need some advice. My boston had 3 puppies yesterday and up until tonight, one of the pups is acting funny. He acts as if he can't or doesn't know how to latch on to mom's nipple. He was at first a little slow ate nursing but he did do it this morning. Now I have noticed that he is very limp and has his tongue hanging out. He looks like the runt of the litter. He looks thinner than the other 2. Although, he has been wandering around alot this past few days. I don't know if he is just sleepy or if he is not going to make it. Please help if you can. I am very upset. I keep trying to help him by expressing the mother's nipple so that he will get something, but he just doesn't latch on like the others. What do I do?!!!!

Mom still tends to him. She cleans him and nudges him over to her. I would think that if he wasn't going to make it, mom would neglect him. Is this true? My husband stayed up with the pups all last night and this morning and said he was eating pretty good. I am going to keep my fingers crossed. Thanks everyone.

The most important thing is to keep him warm, as if he is not eating, his body temp will drop to dangerous levels.
Get an eyedropper and feed him by hand.
Always wrap him in a warm (microwaved) washcloth while feeding him and feed the formula very warm.
Mix one can of milk (canned goat milk if you can find it this late is the best, but regular canned milk will do) With equal part of boiled water.
Mix the reconstituted milk with one egg yoke and one tablespoon of plain yogurt.
This should get the baby more energetic, and maybe he will soon latch on.
Be sure to give him back to mom as soon as he eats,or stimulate his bottom to get him to poo...with a paper towel, just rub his little bottom.
You can used any eyedropper, so if you don't have a late pharmacy, you can use any dropper from any med at your grocer's or convenience store.
Just wash it very well.
Since your mom had a C-section, the pup may have not gotten enough colostrum, and this is why he is weak.

How is mom acting towards him? This could mean that there is something wrong with him that you just can't see. If you make the decision to pull him, then you have a new baby. He must be kept warm, you can use a 20oz coke bottle filled with hot water and wrapped in a towel. Change the water every time he is fed. If he is younger than 4 days, 'milk" mom and feed him every 2 hours. Drops at a time. You can stimulate him to eat by rubbing the sides of his muzzle. Do not hold him like a human infant, keep him on his belly while he eats. You will also have to make him 'go potty' by rubbing a warm damp cloth on his penis and anus.
Graduate slowly to a baby bottle. Get a milk replacer from either the vet, or petstore. Still feeding every 2 hours, day and night. If all still goes well in a week, then you can add iron fortified infant cereal to his milk...

go to www.woofboard.com and signup. It's free. Go to the section on general health. This is a board exclusive to Boston terriers and I have been helped tremendously by them. They have a liscensed vet on the board to help w/all diff. kinds of probs plus it's a great support board. Hope this helps.

You can buy puppy replacement milk at the pet stores, however, if you can keep him nursing, it would be better for him. The mother's immunity to disease is passed to the puppies in the milk.

Please call a vet & ask them what you can do.They will tell you.If the vet is closed,,they will have an emergency # to call.If you feed the pup yourself,,I think that you will need baby formula & be careful not to drown him with the drops.
