There are many advantages. A large family is like a large support system. There's always someone there. The only major disadvantages that come to mind are financial difficulties and lack of privacy.

It can be both.

Depending on the family's economic situation, a large family can mean that the kids wear and use a lot of hand-me-downs instead of getting new things of their own. But then they learn to share, and they can also learn to value people instead of things.

It can mean that there's not much private time or space at home. But then kids from big families are seldom lonely (at least not from being left alone for long periods).

There's a lot more cooking and cleaning to be done, but there are a lot more people to help get the work done (and so, ideally, the kids learn how to cook, etc.)

There's a lot of opportunity for disagreement, but that gives the chance to learn how to argue without completely losing it.

So, as I said... having a large family can be both an advantage and a disadvantage.

A family no matter what size is an advantage. I have 4 kids and a step son. My husband and I don't have any kids together, we have both wished that we had. My mom came from a family of 10 kids. Five boys and five girls. They had their struggles believe me, but I don't think any of them would change the size of their family. Just on my mom's side I have 36 cousins, 37 second cousins and who knows from there. For the most part, most of us are close. We all get together twice a year once in the summer we go camping for 4 days (usually there is between 80-100 of us) and then again for our family Christmas party. There are some of us that see each other more often. I love my big family!!

it depends whether or not you are a family person yourself.

If you want to experience the magic of unconditional love, then a child is definately the way to go.

If your most important view on life is about money and you have no interest in being a parent then maybe you won't ever feel the need for a family.

disadvantage. it does have advatages such as support and built in friends and such. but i say disadvantage, because when there are that many kids, the parent's time and money are both spread thin. the kids have ot entertain themselves and be alone more, since there are things the parents need to do. and more kids eating more, wearing more clothes, etc. means the parents have to spend money on all of them- and not spend alot on just one or two kids. so they may not be able to affford tutors, special classes, nicer colleges, and things tha tmay help the kid in the long run.

I see the advantage of having plenty of moral support and such with a large family, with a small family you have to be very indepent and self reliant with less support which can be a very hard road.
