The best place to start is by asking his parents/family. Another place to look is Yahoo People Search. You can try https://www.us.army.mil/suite/login/welcome.html, but I don't know if you will be able to log on.

Find out what branch of the armed services he's in (army, navy, air force, coast guard, marines) and find out what division (platoon) - I have a friend who has a bunch of pen pals in the marines serving over there - you might be able to get something like that started.

If you can't find out from his friends or family, you can try setting up a utility account with AKO, I don't know for sure if that will help, but you might at least get his unit. I know my husband does people searches but he has a full access account. You can also try calling your local Red Cross office but I'm not sure if they'll be able to find him with his name alone. If they do find him, all they'll be able to tell you is that he's alive, they can't tell you where he is. Good luck.

if you are not the servicemember's immediate family, then neither the Red Cross nor any other official military channel will be open to you. this is to protect his safety.

youc an try using the buddy finder on military.com, but it's not the most accurate or up to date.
