Spending time with them. Touching them. People tend to receive less time with their children as they age, and I have heard most elderly people say that they never get touched anymore and they miss it. I like to give my mom neck and shoulder rubs, or foot rubs, and once I got her a gift certificate to a masseuse.

I have love for my mother (because she is my mother) but absolutely no gratitude! She was (and maybe still is) an alcoholic and a drug addict while I was growing up! From her being like that, I have learned alot of things. Those things are making me the parent that I am! I am very proud of myself... I have seen what alcohol and drugs do. I do not so much as smoke cigarettes (she smokes also)! My husband does the same as I and I am lucky for that! My father passed away when I was 13. I only saw him a couple times before that. He was better off than my mother but he wasn't their for my sister and I as a father.... That is my story! lol

For my father, I would call him first thing in the morning to wish him "Happy Father's Day" and talk with him for a bit. Then later I would spend the day with him or take him out to dinner. Sometimes I can't do either so I get him a shirt with the most funniest wording on it that I can find. :)

It's so nice to hear that there is someone out there who's thankful for the things parents do to their children. Being a parent myself, I never ask my kids for anything in return for all the love and care I've given them...but it always brings a smile to my face every time they hug and kiss me.

I don't think I have the words to express my love and gratitude for my parents. They loved and cared for me, sacrificing for myself and my sisters good. They taught me how to take care of myself in this world with integrity, to be honorable, honest, and responsible. They instilled faith in, and love for God and others, even the unlovely. I watched them demonstrate generosity and charity over and over, even when it left them in a tight spot. They taught me how to forgive, and the value of a friend. They taught me by example and in word how to love my wife and be a good parent to my own kids. I lost my mom in March, and my Dad has cancer. I miss her terribly, and the impending loss of my Dad is almost overwhelming. But, you know, they taught me how to deal with loss too. In short, I love and appreciate them deeply, for they are truly the biggest reason I am who I am today.

I am thankful for my father because even though we didn't speak for seven years we are talking now and I love him as much for who he is as a person as I do for being my father. He is constant support for me and he recently apologized to my mother(his ex) for his part in the divorce. That takes a lot in my opinion, he set her free and I highly respect that.
