Absolutely not. An overdose of Sleeping Pills (like Nytol and Sominex) cannot kill you.

Pain medicine, tranquilizers (benzodiazipines and such.....) and anti-depressants CAN kill you. Sleeping pills pretty much make you hallucinate and screw with your brain and cause brain damage.

However, I am unsure if the new generation of sleeping pills can do more damage, I have not seen that in the ER yet. They can cause you to have serious amnesia, have blackouts and the such if you take more than the prescribed dose or mix them with alcohol.

If you mix OTC sleeping pills with alcohol and other drugs, that can kill you.

But alone? No.

BTW...to the gentleman above who claimed sleeping pills are barbiturates...that is incorrect. They stopped making barbiturate sleeping pills years ago and barbiturates as a whole are rarely used. Fiorinol is a pain med, not a sleeping pill and it is the only barb commonly prescribed anymore.

over the counter napping pills will rather a lot in no way kill you, in spite of the certainty that taking a pair of boxes would provide you liver harm. Prescription napping pills could be quite risky, in spite of the undeniable fact that, however the selection required to get a deadly dose relies upon on the ability of the medicine and issues like the bodyweight of the person. of path, in various cases, taking too many can go away the sufferer alive yet with a badly broken nervous gadget, lungs, and coronary heart and frequently completely institutionalized. So, what i'm asserting is: undesirable to take too many.

yes, they sure can. It happens all the time. I believe that death by overdose sometimes isn't suicide. maybe they take a pill and forget and take another, then another, so on, so on. By that point, they don't know what's going on and may continue to take more. Plus everyone has their toxicity level. What might kill one person, might not kill someone else.

Yes. Many sleeping pills are barbiturates which can depress the cardiovascular & respiratory systems. If someone takes too much - they stop breathing.

it would only kill you if you took a load of them. diazepam or lorazepam or tamazepam or other prescription ones. over the counter ones wont do. of course some good strong pain killers would be much more effective. try and sort things out before resorting to suicide though.
