I read the Christian answers and the athiest answers. I am a Christian by the way. The athiest say Christians are brainwashed,(some)Christians think the athiest are crazy. I was wondering to the athiest, what would have to happen to you to make you believe? Also I've always known Christ as my Savior, how do you not? I'm not trying to be judgemental,I was just wondering.

As a strong believer who came to know Christ later in life, I've considered whether I'm "brainwashed" or not. I think that if someone labelled me as such, I wouldn't take offense. I may take it as an undeserved compliment. Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...." I would hope that my brain is being washed with God's "soap". As I go about trying to "clean up my life", I think brainwashed isn't such a bad thing.

I've seen both sides of this question, and I prefer to be on the christian side. I made my own choice without any coercion.

What Caused the change? a search to know the truth. And since then, There have been so many blessings and answered prayers which can not be attributed to luck or coincidence that I can not turn back now.

William Miller who started the advent movement in the 1830s also was an avowed atheist. He began to read the Bible to find its contradictions and errors, but what he found was perfect harmony of the scriptures. At the same time, he also studied history and was able to see that the prophecies of the Bible were fulfilled much later.

Well I'm not either one. I am me, and I believe in a higher being. Whether or not he did what the Bible said, I believe there is something or someone who created everything. I am kind of in between, and believe the higher being created the big ball of stuff to make the Big Bang!

And I am tired of atheists saying Christians are brainwashed sheep. Most are good people who are just like you and me. And christians, stop calling atheists heathens and stupid and saying "if you don't believe, don't blame me when you burn in eternal fire." The argument is old, and I am tired of all the crap.

But to answer your question, atheists do not believe for many reasons. Here are some:

1) They see no logical evidence in the Bible, and think modern science is a better explanation for the world around them.

2) They are people desperate for attention and want to somehow stand out, so they rebel and fight the faithful and make fun of them, feeling very pleased with themselves; thinking they are so smart and witty.

3) They simply did not see religion as a important factor in their lives, and felt it did not improve their lives. they did not see any way that religion helped them in their daily activities.

4) Something awful happened to them. So awful, that they lost all faith and believe that if their was a good God then he wouldn't let people suffer like they did.

If your atheist, sorry about #2. but a lot of you know that is one of the reasons.

For me, if I can't see it, touch it, hear it, smell it or taste it, it doesn't exist. I cannot just accept something on faith and faith alone. When someone "believes" in something, isn't that person acting on faith..... especially when it comes to the bible. I wasn't there when all those stories supposedly took place. And as far as I know, neither was anyone else who is alive today. So nobody I know can say, "I was there. I saw it with my own eyes."

Let me ask you a couple of questions. Is your god all knowing and all powerful? Then why did your god create lucifer? Didn't your god know that lucifer would turn on him and become what people now call satan, or the devil? If your god didn't know what would happen to lucifer, then your god is NOT all knowing. If your god knew what would happen and did nothing to stop it, why not? Was it because your god WANTED to bring evil into the world? What does that say about your god's character? Or maybe it was because your god wasn't strong enough to stop lucifer. That means your god isn't all powerful.

Look at all the teriible things in the world. Either your god causes all those terrible things to happen, or your god chooses not to stop them from happening. If your god causes those terrible things, your god is NOT a merciful or loving god. If your god chooses not to stop terrible things from happening, well..... in that case your god must be the devil.

You can't have it both ways. You can't say that your god is all knowing and all powerful and then, when bad things happen to good people, turn around and say, "God acts in mysterious ways." You can't say that your god is merciful and loving, and then try to explain why a baby can raped or murdered or otherwise brutalized and your god did nothing to stop it.

And you ask me how I cannot accept christ as my savior?

As a non-believer, for me to believe would take some kind of sign to prove he exists, it won't happen from reading a book that was written centuries after he died, that has been changed some many times and translated incorrectly.
I have never been to church (I'm 36 years old) and probably never will. I refuse to place my faith in the hands of incompetent fools with out of date ideas. Besides that, apparently God gave me freewill so it's my choice and He should respect that (shouldn't He).

The problem is not the atheist or the believer themselves. The problem is the mindset that the atheist must convince the believers not to believe, and the believers sure as hell are trying to convert the atheists.
So you should not ask "what would have to happen to make you (atheist) believe?" but maybe try asking something like "what can we relate with other than religion so we are at peace with each other?"
Just try it, it's so much better and I swear it'll add a couple years of your lifetime.

It's God's job to work on the atheist's hearts. It's our job to be a witness and walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

I would have to have a frontal lobotomy to believe. I used to be a Christian as well, then recovered from my illness.
