♡No, not at all! Why would you feel embarrassed? Because it's the MEOC bus? So what?! Nothing wrong with that. Just get over it, think of it this way, someone else gets to do the driving for you, you don't have to stress about the traffic, where to park, getting gas, you can sit back, take a nap, catch up on some reading... Just think of it as a "little holiday" from your car. Don't think of it as such a bad thing, that's part of the problem. I use public transportation almost everyday (and I have a car, mind you!), bus, train subway and at first I hated it. But I looked at it differently and now I think it's pretty useful. I get a lot done along the way too. I'm not embarrassed at all and I don't think you should be either. Of course this is just my opinion, but I hope it helps!♡

Me Again: You said:
"...the people who ride them are losers who have DUIs, retards that can't drive, people who only get a raise when the minimum wage goes up every four years, or high school children with no other way to get to the beach."
Are you a loser with a DUI, or a retard who can't drive and only gets a raise every four years 'cause the minimum wage went up? Or are you still in high school trying to get to the beach? If not, then how on EARTH would you know that the people taking the bus are like what you described? Unless you take the bus day in and day out, you are not equipped to make such a claim. Oh wait, you've taken the bus but you were the one and only exception to the rule? Then your rule is false. Then again, maybe not.
I take the bus and have never owned a car and I'm 37 yrs young. Why? I have a visual impairment and failed the vision test at the DMV with my glasses on. Shrimp, there is nothing to be ashamed of for taking the bus. If you gotsta take the bus, then you gotsta take the bus. Don't listen to Me Again whatsoever, things happen to everyone and for now you have to take the bus to get from point A to point B, pure and simple. Granted, it's not always so nice taking the bus and having to deal with its schedules and delays, but look at it this way. At least it's a temporary thing for you, and yes, be HAPPY you have the bus instead of having to pay for a cab every day.
And btw, as for the "types" who take the bus or any form of public transportation, I've seen very respectable, productive, professional, downright good people taking the bus. Lots of professionals in downtown L.A. take the bus. They own cars, but don't want to deal with traffic and the stress that comes with it. And people here are right, you are saving a PILE of money by not having to buy gas. These prices are awful, I see my sister struggling with it.
Take a book, magazine, ipod, nap, or just daydream. Everyone here is right (except for Me Again), let someone else worry about the traffic.

Get over yourself. A lot of people go through their whole lives and never own a car. As gas prices get higher mass transit will become a necessity. It is pure arrogance that makes you think you need to drive yourself to McDonalds every day.

Be thankful that you have public transit in your area. Unlike myself..I had to depend on friends to take me to and from work. It got so bad before my car was done that my friends got to where they wouldn't answer their phones. I was giving them gas money but, it was still hard on the friendships. They wouldn't even come to visit because they were afraid I might ask them to take me to the store or something...So be patience, make new friends, old folks really do know alot about life and hardships. Most of them are there because they are told by someone they can longer drive their on auto. Be kind to them. They might just look forward to seeing you. You remind them of younger days...I know this may not be much comfort to you but, I hope it helps a little..

In my area, Orange County, California, we have the OCTA buses. It stands for "Orange County Transit Authority". Generally speaking, the people who ride them are losers who have DUIs, retards that can't drive, people who only get a raise when the minimum wage goes up every four years, or high school children with no other way to get to the beach. Not even our senior citizens will be seen on them. You cannot, and SHOULD not get over the embarassment of riding public transportation. You should use your experience as a constant reminder not to fk up your car again.

make friends with the driver and other people who ride. talk to them and ask them about their day. get involved instead of distancing yourself. There are probably neat people on there who would be happy to have a temporary friend. Give yourself about 100 points for saving gasoline and the environment. You go!

Absolutely not. If the US had a better public transportation system in place I would sell my cars in a heart beat and give up my driver's license.
