is it just sp2 you are trying to install or the whole operating system? If it just trying to upgrade from sp1 to sp2 and you are having errors then its more than likely you are not using a legit copy of WinXP.Do you have the sticker with the serial number for your WinXP?You can just go to Windows Updates and download the sp2 but be warned if you are on dial up this will be a huge download.Until recently Microsoft had a link on their website where you could leave your address details and they would mail you out a copy of sp2.Now you have to ring them direct and ask for a copy to be mailed to you.Alternatively you could go to your closest computer service shop and ask them to burn you a copy of sp2.A good shop should only charge a small fee for this service

Are you getting any error messages? If you can install XP with SP1, have you tried downloading the SP2 to upgrade? As long as your XP SP1 passes any Microsoft validation scans you should be able to upgrade to SP2.

Did you boot off the cd before windows started, or did you open the cd from your existing windows. try to put the cd in, and then restart the computer. Then press any key for a few moments until it boots from the cd. then, you'll be able to erase any existing windows.
