My husband use to take Effexor for depression. He thougth he could get off it and handle his problems. He is an over the road truck driver and he is NOT handeling it. We fight on the phone a lot, he is depressed and can't see it. He thinks everyone is doing things to him. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do, I'm at my wits end and ready to walk. But I do love him.

Well I was on effexor for over a year and well he shouldnt stop taking them with out consulting a doctor because I did and had a relapse and ended up in the hospital so I suggest you try to convince him to go to the doctor and well if he starts arguing and fighting just dont pay any attention dont fight just let him argue by himself..

If things were better when he was taking Effexor, tell him that you see a difference. I dont believe that depression is something you can just "deal" with. Getting off of Effexor it self can increase depression . It must be weaned off. If you think he is set in his ways and not willing to make some changes, then it may be time for a seperation. Fighting all the time is no way to live life.

support is the most important thing for someone w/ depression being able to have someone to depend on through thick and thin is very important if you leave it will just make it harder to deal w/ for him instead try to get him to relize he was better off on meds and be there for him when he needs you most ive had a similar experiance the father of my son left me when i was down and it made me go down futher cause i had no support system then so stick w/ it, it'll all work out in the end

That's the last thing you need is to leave your husband when he is like that. It is the worse thing for a person with depression for anyone to leave them,it insurses that people are going to abandon them (I should know because, that's what happens to me with friends,it hurts and makes things worse). Go with him to a mental health center, ask someone if they can help him and try to get back on his medication. If he can get a therapist and a doctor that can help him get back on his medication, then things can go on the road on being okay again.

I hope this helps you both there, but sick with him no matter what it takes.

Antidepressants can take up to 6 weeks for their full effect to take place. It is important not to stop them abruptly and your partner should revisit his practitioner. Antidepressant will not cure the cause, only make you more able to cope with solving your problems. It is wise to get counselling support to help you through.
