Does normal doctor-patient confidentiality apply to required physicals with a company doctor?

That didn't all fit, but what I want to know is I'm working at a hospital over the summer, and I have to see their doctor to make sure I don't have any diseases I could give to the patients or anything, and the thing is I'm worried the doctor is going to see the cuts on my arm (if I'm wearing long sleeves in the summer and insist he do the TB test and whatever else on my right arm, I think he might catch on...), and what I'm worried about is can he tell my boss since the whole point is to make sure I'm healthy enough to work there, and can I lose my job for it if they think I'm like "emotionally unstable" or something?

Would cutting count as something they could report even if I don't cut deep enough that it could do any serious harm?

babyoshambles: I'm not going to be in the same room as any patients anyhow. I'm working in a research lab but cause it's in a hospital I have to follow the same rules as people working in a part of the hospital that actually has patients in it...

Any person who is a licensed MD has to maintain confidentiality. It is an ethical obligation of the professional. The only time they can release any information regarding an exam is if you agree to it in writing. Your best bet is to review any consent forms they give you prior to the exam and make sure you do not sign any waivers.

that last post is not true, if a doctor has concerns for the well-being of you or any patients you may be working with, he can express this concern in a progress note in your medical file. It may or may not be able to say why exactly but the Doc can do that. My concern is if you are being treated at all...I'm assuming of course that the cuts on your arms are intentional, if you are seeking help for a "cutting" condition, then you could be upfront with the doctor and let him know you are under continuing care.
So to end a lengthy paragraph, yes there is Doctor - Patient confidentiality but if the Dr. feels anyone is in danger, they can report that. hope this helps, good luck

To be honest, judging by your other questions I do not think that vulnerable patients should be exposed to a person as unstable as yourself. I don't want to offend you but you have been asking questions on how to carry out credit card fraud, whether you should starve or throw up to lose weight and best ways to mutilate yourself. In my work (mental health) everyone must go through an enhanced disclosure(police check) before they are allowed near people who are vulnerable including hospital patients. I, personally would have grave concerns about employing you in such an environment. I am sorry for your trouble but I seriously suggest you find professional psychiatric help before you take on a job in a hospital.

Medical ethics is not to report anything to anyone else .But the doctors can recommend that you also need care.No specific names of diseases/diagnoses of your condition are given to employers.
