We are going to Canada next year and are going to purchase an RV (Motorhome) and just wondering if it's cheaper in different provinces? When I used to live in Calgary, there was no provincial tax so if I buy an RV directly (no dealer) would it be roughly 8% cheaper to buy it in Alberta than other provinces? Also, any extra 'annoying' laws in different provinces when purchasing a vehicle?

The national sales tax (GST) goes down from 7% to 6% on July 1. You're right, Alberta has 0 sales tax (so really 6% with the GST after July 1), while Ontario has 8% (so really 14% with the GST after July 1).

Also, where you register the vehicle will affect which environmental policy you have to follow. There may be a heftier environmental surcharge in Ontario, with the increased pollution. I have no idea. Each province has Ministry of Transportation or similarly named department.

It might be higher in price in the bigger cities.

Check out the taxes on the net for different provinces. I live in Ontario and here the taxes are 8% and 7% for GST and PST. So 15% total. But the GST is supposed to be going down soon. Keep in mind too you'll have to pay taxes when you bring to back through Customs.

You are right about the taxes. In NB taxes (HST - harmonized provincial and GST tax) is 15%. Actually it was supposed to go down to 14% but I don't know if it has yet.
