The patch was supposed to be pulled off the shelves and recalled. My brother-in-law is a doctor and made his wife get off the patch because the horrible side affects. He did a large research on several different products out there. There were more deaths with the patch than the pill. Blood clots, Strokes, heartattacks were increased. I hear that the ring is supposed to be a better alternative but since I don't use birth control I don't really pay too much attention to them.

yes I used the patch for a year, I used it when I got off depo so I could not get pregnant, but still get my period back (I was easing my body back into it) as soon as I was ready to I stopped taking the patch (on purpose) and RIGHT after I stopped taking the patch I got pregnant (on purpose) unfortunately I miscarried (which had nothing to do with the patch use) I used the patch after I miscarried for two months and then stopped using it again (to get pregnant again) and right away I did. I'm telling you this so you know it unlike SOME birth control methods (like depo) the patch doesn't have lingering effects, once you stop using it you run the risk of getting pregnant right away (when I got off depo it took me a year and a half to get my period back). I LIKED using the patch because I SUCK at remembering to take the pill (and they made me nauseous). And with the patch you only have to remember to remove it once a week. To avoid a rash put it somewhere different everytime, but SOME people are unlucky and have a reaction to it anyway. By the way for ME, the whole you can go swimming and it not wear off didn't exactly apply to me, I used to take marathon baths (it was my way of winding down at the end of the day I'd soak and read for between 30 minutes to an hour). And I noticed after one or two during the same week my patch would start to wear off, maybe my skin is weird.

I love the patch!! I've been on it for 3 years and it's so much easier than the pill. I know there are those out there that don't want to take it because of the "increased risk" of side effects. Until they can prove it to me, I'll be on the patch.

My ob/gyn refused to prescribe the patch for me because of the alarming number of strokes and blood clots in otherwise healthy women on the patch! He put me on nuvaring instead. I LOVE it!! I put it in once monthly, don't feel a thing and the first one is free if you print out the coupon at nuvaring.com!
