LIKE Optical character Recognisation software, is there any sftw available for Shape recognisation from Pic?

OCR recognises charaters from image. Generally this comes with a scanner. Now I need a software Purely for Research purpose which will recognise various shapes from given image or Photo. Shapes can be common like circle, traiangle, polygon etc or some predifined like Heart, oval or S shaped etc. Is this software available? I need it verybadly.

I don't know of anything commercially available, but I would be willing to bet that the military has something akin to this, perhaps for aircraft silhouette recognition by visual radar, as an I-F-F device.
