some plastics are too thin and over time erode into the things you may be containing inside it like food or water. some plastic containers are more expensive because it lasts longer and doesn't erode as fast. that's why you shouldn't reuse your water bottle, like the dasani water bottles, for a long time because they erode into your water, so you just bring it to your local recycling plant. i know this, but i don't know how you can tell if its good grade by just looking at it, sorry.

Any plastic is good for pet food storage just make sure it hermetically seals becasue lots of pests love dog food. Get a tote from Walmart, Menards or Home depot you don't need to spend extra for a "fancy" dog food keeper.

Plastic is never a good storage container for dogs. If your pet is a dog, only use glass or ceramic.

I have seen rodents chew through thick plastic buckets plenty of time to get to what's stored inside. Whether it is a case of the odors of the contents seeps through or if it was just that after you handle the foods and then close them up in the bucket you are placing the oils--odors--taste on the outside of the bucket triggering the rodents to chew through, that I am not sure.

We use the big storage bins that you can get at any of the "Big Box" stores like Walmart. Rubbermaid makes a great one with a lid that locks on so that our dog and/or any bugs can't get in.
